An account of placing the headstone on Isaac Bradshaw's Grave -- Dec. 9, 2006
I personally want to thank Scott Rogers, Tom Riggs and Maria Langer for putting together and hosting this fun sojourn. I never found the time to count vehicles but I'm sure there were from 15 to 20 combined 4X4's, ATV's, two passenger ATV's which departed the Wickenburg Rodeo Grounds parking lot at approximately 10 AM.
Historical facts were pointed out and explained along the 22 mile route by Tom Riggs and Scott Rogers. Which will require a few more individual trips back to this area to explore all the side roads. Day light was becoming a premium when we got back to the parking lot around 4:30 PM.
Tom knows of several individual graves still standing that will require a little arm twisting on my part to get Tom to take me to them, so I can document them.
(Arizona Pioneer Cemetery Research Project) APCRP met its goal by placing the first cement headstone at the Isaac Bradshaw Grave with factual birth and death date on the headstone. I should mention that as we were preparing the stones to lay the headstone we found a rock that someone had chiseled "Bradshaw", it was faint and was hard to read. We cleaned the brush that had grown inside the picket fence and then laid the headstone. There is discussion of replacing the current picket fence with a new one and hopefully this can be accomplished in 2007.
If you haven't made this trip it is well worth the effort - the route from Wickenburg to the Lincoln Mine past the Swallow Mine is far better road than coming up Castle Creek from Lake Pleasant. If you come from Lake Pleasant my suggestion is to turn left on Buckhorn Canyon Road, turn right at the Lincoln Mine and go in this way. It may be longer but the road is far better.
